Make a Quick Breakfast

If you're anything like me, then you know waking up early enough to make yourself some breakfast is a difficult routine to begin and maintain. However, this ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is great for the person with limited time in the morning. You only need five things to start you off:

  1. Butter (real butter is better than margarine)
  2. 2 Eggs
  3. 1 English Muffin (I personally like the whole wheat)
  4. 2 Slices of Ham (Thin and Trim works better because it's quicker to cook)
  5. 1 Slice of Cheddar Cheese (any kind is fine, but cheddar cheese is just so delicious)

Now your ready to go. Get your frying pan out, turn your stove top on, and let's get cooking.

Let's Cook

First thing's first, melt some butter to create a light covering on the frying pan. Make sure its fully melted but not burnt (no one likes their eggs tasting like burnt butter). It's now time for those eggs. I cook the eggs over-medium (cooked on both sides, the whites are fully cooked, and the yolk is of a medium consistency), but feel free to try over-easy or over-well. This decision is completely up to the chef. Once you've begun the the egg cooking process get your ham and cheese out.

Set aside those two pieces of ham and that one piece of cheese. Now, let's move to the English muffin. Put them in the toaster for however long it takes to toast them to your preference. Shift your attention back to the ham. Place the two pieces of ham on the eggs already cooking and wait a few seconds for them to sizzle (Remember, if you're using the Thin and Trim it won't take too long for them to cook). Check, with a spatula, that the bottom whites are fully cooked (a very light brown), and if they are, then flip the egg. Your toast might be ready by this point. Take them out and add just a little more butter. As the butter begins to melt into the bread, take the slice of cheese and place it on top of the eggs creating a ham, egg and cheese stack.

You're almost there. Let the cheese melt and check the egg whites to make sure they are fully cooked. If the cheese has melted nicely the eggs are probably fine. Alright, you've done all the hard work. Just move the egg, ham and cheese to the English muffin and you are all set. All you have to do now is add the condiments. I'm a purist and don't enjoy the extras on my breakfast sandwich, but "to each their own". Even the additions of tomatoes and lettuce could make this tasty breakfast that much more delicious. This last part is completely up to you. Just to put you at ease, it takes just under 15 minutes for both prep and cooking time. Your body will thank you for the added fuel that it needs to get you through the day. Dig In!
